How do you upload an Etsy CSV to Shopify?

Convert it to Shopify’s column layout first, then import it under Products > Import. Shopify can’t read Etsy’s file as it is.

  1. Download the listings CSV from Etsy.
  2. Drop it into the converter above and fill in the variant prices and stock.
  3. Download the Shopify CSV and fix anything marked Must fix.
  4. In Shopify, go to Products > Import, add the file and click Upload and continue.
  5. Review the preview, then click Import products.

The converter sets new products to draft, so you can check them before they go live. Shopify takes product files up to 15 MB.

How do you export a CSV from Etsy?

In Etsy, go to Shop Manager > Settings > Options > Download Data and click Download CSV.

It holds title, description, price, currency code, quantity, tags, materials, image URLs and SKUs (if you added them). It covers your active listings only, so make a listing active first if you want to move it.

How do Etsy columns map to Shopify columns?

Most columns move one to one. Variations are the exception, because Shopify wants one row per variant.

  • Title to Title, and a URL handle made from it
  • Description to Description, with line breaks turned into paragraphs
  • Tags to Tags, separated by commas
  • Price to Price on every variant row
  • Quantity to Inventory quantity
  • Each image URL to Product image URL, one row each, with an Image position
  • Variation names and values to Option1 and Option2
  • SKU split into one SKU per variant row

Handles must be unique and use only letters, numbers and dashes. Two listings with the same title get -2 added to the second handle.

Why are variant prices missing from the Etsy CSV?

Etsy’s file has one price and one quantity per listing, so each variant’s price and stock have to be added. Shopify’s Etsy guide says to enter them on each variant row.

Variants per product = number of values in variation 1 × number of values in variation 2

Example: an apron with sizes S, M, L and colors Natural and Charcoal makes 3 × 2 = 6 variant rows. All six start at the listing price of 38.00. You change the large sizes to 42.00 in the table above before you download.

When a SKU cell holds several SKUs separated by commas, the converter gives them out in file order, so check each one.

What happens to my Etsy photos?

The image links in the Etsy file are kept, and Shopify downloads each photo during the import. Each image needs a public link, and Shopify does not accept file names ending in _thumb, _small or _medium.

To check the finished file again, or split a large one, use the Shopify product CSV checker. To change prices across the catalog later, see our field guide on bulk editing Shopify prices.

Questions

Is my Etsy file uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the file and builds the Shopify CSV on your computer. Close the tab and it is gone.

How is this different from the Shopify Store Migration app?

The app imports the unedited Etsy file as drafts, and listings with 101 or more variation combinations come in without variants. Here you set each variant price and see every problem before you import.

Why do my products show as sold out after the import?

Variants with a quantity of 0 stop selling, because the file sets Continue selling when out of stock to deny. Fill in the quantities before download, or edit them in Shopify.

Does it move reviews, customers and orders?

No. Those are separate imports, and Shopify’s Etsy guide points to third-party apps for them.
